AIT ARTIST TALK #62：トルコ、ドイツ、そしてオランダより、3人のアーティストを迎えて

AITでは、9月10日（月）にアイシェ・エルクメン （トルコ）、クリスティーナ・ベルニング（ドイツ）、ヘンク・フィシュ（オランダ）によるアーティストトークを開催します。
本トークは、明日、9月8日（土）よりワコウ・ワークス・オブ・アートで開催される「Two birds, a stone and a horse 二羽の鳥と石と馬」展（ヘンク・フィシュ企画） にあわせて、企画されました。

ヘンク・フィシュは、ベニス・ビエンナーレやドクメンタなどの国際展をはじめ、数多くの展覧会やパブリックアートプロジェクトを手がけてきたオランダを代表する作家の一人です。詩人のような独特の思索からフォルムを導き出し擬人化した立体や、抽象的な造形で知られています。ブロンズ作品の他、近年では、ワイヤーを主な素材とした人体を思わせる立体作品をしています。

アイシェ・エルクメンは、昨年のベニス・ビエンナーレのトルコ館の代表作家で、近年ますます注目を浴びている作家の一人です。既成品を素材とし、新たな空間に配置し直すことで、鑑賞者に身体性をともなうユニークな鑑賞体験を与えます。展覧会では、インターネットで自らの名前を画像検索し、ポートレートを制作した《On Its Own》を展示します。インターネット上に存在する画像の所属先の不明・不透明性、またブラウザーや国によって結果が変化すること等のシステムを問い直します。

クリスティーナ・ベルニングは、三人のなかでは一番若手で、独特の造形力と構成力に今後の活躍が期待される作家です。木材、プラスター、さまざまな拾得物などの日常的な素材を、粗野で未処理な特徴を残したままで使い、一見もろく見える作品を制作します。こうして出来た作品は、西洋美術がよりどころとしている、自然や現存する事物の模倣という定義の解体、再構築をこころみるものです。彼女により生み出された非現実的な造形は、鑑賞者に、形態と空間の概念についての再解釈を迫ります。

今回のトークでは、三人の異なる立体表現を展開する作家たちが新作や旧作について語るほか、ヘンク・フィシュの企画意図などについても紹介します。

ヘンク・フィシュは、2004年にAITのトークに参加して以来、8年ぶりの登壇となります。

“Two birds, a stone and a horse” Talk by Kristina Berning, Ayşe Erkmen & Henk Visch

AIT is very pleased to be able to host an artists talk in collaboration with Wako Works of Art, on the occasion of the exhibition "Two birds, a stone and a horse. Kristina Berning, Ayşe Erkmen & Henk Visch".

The exhibition marks the beginning of the gallery’s 20th anniversary program and will present works by three artists curated by Henk Visch.

Henk Visch has shown at Wako Works of Art in six solo exhibitions and at many exhibitions and international exhibitions. Visch’s sculptures are figurations of man’s vast emotions, psyche and intentions. He utilizes materials such as bronze, iron and aluminium to render his unique sense of the uncanny, reality and humor.

Ayşe Erkmen was born in Turkey in 1949, and is currently based in Istanbul and Berlin. She has recently represented the Turkish Pavilion in the 54th Venice Biennale (2011), and more familiarly has shown in the Echigo-Tsumari Triennale in Niigata in 2006. Her work is based on the use of readymade materials and their transformation through her site-specific installations, as well as the audience’s mental and physical responses.

Born in 1984 in Saerbeck, Germany, Kristina Berning studied with Henk Visch at Kunstakademie Mu¨nster, where she graduated with an MFA in 2010. Her objects, made from everyday materials such as wood, plaster and found objects, are assembled fragile and true to the raw materials used; her work challenge the viewers to disregard the notion of mimesis that Western art has long striven to achieve.

Henk Visch has spoken at AIT previously, and it will be a pleasure to welcome him back. This talk will offer an opportunity to listen to the three artists discuss their practice and works, as well as their collaboration for this unique Tokyo exhibition curated by Visch.

The talk will be in English with consecutive Japanese translation and held in AIT Room, Daikanyama.
