- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Discoveries in Brazil Dance & Music Camp in Japan - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Silvestre Project Japan is happy to announce that we will have Rosangela Silvestre again in Japan in September 2012. As part of a two-week series of dance workshops and performance by Rosangela Silvestre between 15 and 23 September, there will be a special study camp to intensively learn with Rosangela and two other distinguished teachers.
In this rare opportunity, the participants will learn Silvestre Technique, a unique dance training integrating the physical body with our connection to the Universe, and Orixa Dance Movement, an artistic study of rhythms and movements rooted in sacred symbolism and traditions of Brazil. In addition, there will be introductory classes on Brazilian percussion and the art of Capoeira, as well as a special Samba class by Rosangela and our guest teachers.
This three-day residency takes place in the beautiful region of Izu Peninsula, in Shizuoka prefecture, Japan. Surrounded by vibrant nature and located nearby an Onsen hot-spring facility, the place offers an ideal space for cultural immersion and exchange. The fee includes all the tuition, boarding for two nights and great meals including some fine Bahia style cuisine!
The instruction will be given in English/Portuguese with Japanese translation. All nationalities are welcome to participate.

[[GUEST TEACHERS' BIO]] Rosangela Silvestre Choreographer, instructor, dancer and creator of the Silvestre Technique, Rosangela is a native of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, where she graduated and post-graduated in dance and choreography. She has researched dance and music in Brazil, India, Egypt, Senegal and Cuba, and acquired training in such diverse techniques as: Martha Graham, Limón, Horton, Floor Bar, Classic Ballet, Dunham Technique. Her dance investigation and constant development created an idea of the Body-Universe, the physical body in its connection to the Universe. Mandela A native of Bahia, Mandela is the founder and professor of Capoeira Angola TRIBO DA LUA - Angoleiros do Mar Japao, one of the most vibrant Capoeira groups in Japan. Jimmy Biala Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Jimmy Biala has extensively studied traditional Brazilian and Cuban music from the master teachers in U.S., Brazil, and Cuba, while playing a wide range of music as a professional percussionist. He has taught in various educational institutions, and has founded and directed Samba ensembles in San Francisco and Beijing. He continues to teach and perform locally and globally.
