過去UMEK、DAVE CLARKE、VALENTINO KANZYANIとヨーロッパの一線で活躍するアーティストがラインナップされ、エッジの効いた良質の音楽が鳴り響くALIEN RADIOが4回目を迎える。そのフロアは毎回、激しい熱気と狂気が入り交じり、ここが日本だと言う事を忘れてしまう。今回はSAMUEL L SESSIONが登場する。95年以降レーベルの設立から” Merengue””Can You Relate”のヒットを生み出し、常に完成度の高いプロダクションワークで、評価が受けている。ストイックな音の中にちりばめられたファンキーな要素が特徴と言える。その彼のDJワークがこのフロアに、はまらないはずはない。
95年に盟友Max Reichとテクノレーベル「Solid Beat」を設立したSamuelは、97年に自身のレーベル「Cycle」を立ち上げ、デビュー曲「Techno Soul Pt 1」をリリース。99年にリリースされた「In Your Box」、「Check Out This I Bring」が、Derrick May, Jeff Mills, Umekなど、数多くのDJにプレイされたことで一躍注目を浴びる存在となり、世界中からオファーが殺到した。 中でもSlamとOliver Hoによるリミックスも収録された「Merengue」は空前の大ヒットとなった。 06年、新境地開拓を目指し「Klap Klap」を設立。さらに進化した音楽性は、よりファンキーに、よりディープなものへと形作られていった。この新しいアプローチで以前とは異なる層のファ ンを獲得するきっかけとなり、その後同レーベルからリリースされた「Can You Relate」で一気にその名を轟かせる存在となった。また同曲は、Slam, Steve Rachmad, Joris Voorn、Martin Hによるリミックス盤も大ヒットし、新たな正統派クラシックとしての完成度に改めて注目が集まることとなった。さらには、リ ミキサーとしてのスタジオワー クを高く評価されたSamuelの元には、Kevin Saunderson, Jerome Sydenham, Audio Soul Project, Len Faki等多くのアーティストからオファーが殺到した。 09年には、Shlomi AberやGel Abrilで大人気のレーベル「Be As One Imprint」からオファーを受け、非常に完成度の高いアルバム 「THE MAN WITH THE CASE」をリリース。Laurent Garnier, Rolando, Francois Kevorkian, Christian SmithやAdam Beyerなどから絶賛された。そして、「Be As One Imprint」から二作目となるニュー・シングル「BIG BAD DRUM」をリリースし。早くもDJの間で大きな話題となっている。常に進化を遂げてきたSamuelのは、今やその動向を常に全世界が注目している存在 となった。
Samuel has been in the electronic music scene since the 90′s with releases on Mu- sic Man, Figure, Soma, Klap Klap and Be As One to name a few. Samuel started his first own label, Solid Beat in 1995 and 2 years later the first Cycle was released. “In Your Box” became his breakthrough record followed by “Check Out This I Bring“. After eleven releases on Cycle, Samuel forms SLS. SLS’s first track “Velvet” became a big dance floor hit and were soon hailed as a classic. During the same period Samuel was invited to remix “Visions Of You” by Blake Baxter & Trevor Rockcliffe as well as Funk D’Void’s “Diabla” on Soma. When “Merengue” came out soon after on SLS, it was one of his best sold records ever including remixes from Slam and Oliver Ho. In 2006 it was time for a new challenge, Klap Klap was born. With this totally new approach he reached out to a wider audience. “Can You Relate” has become a true and modern classic, a track with just the right combinations which later have been remixed by Slam, Steve Rachmad, Joris Voorn and Anja Schneider. In October 2009, Samuel released his first album “The Man With The Case” on Be As One. Laurent Garnier, Rolando, Francois K, Christian Smith and Adam Beyer are some of the artists who has embraced his work.
SLOK (ITALY)
The Italian SLOK is not solely an underground electronic artist but also a great pasta chef with the "Fat Pasta Grooves Vol. 2" in development on his own imprint "Electronic Petz". Rising to prominence through the Italian Breakbeat and D'n'B scene since releasing two albums on the renowed Irma Records.
Continuously exploring the full spectrum of electronic music, he released the international hit "Lonely Child" (2006) in collaboration with Satoshi Tomiie & Hector Romero's SAW Recordings label. In 2010 he also produced two artist albums "The Fat Pasta Grooves" and "Rain". SLOK has released on many respected labels including: Get Physical Music, My Favorite Robot Records, Circle Music, Turbo, OM, Harthouse, Plastic Fantastic (Stereonova), Futic Tokyo and many more.
In March 2012 he debuted on Subb-An & Adam Shelton's One Records to a whole host of international support and glowing reviews alike.
For his latest release on Circle Music he invited brothers in crime My Favorite Robot to sing the vocals and the "Feel Alive EP" features remixes from Subb-An, Lopazz and CasioCasino, which also features on Hernan Cattaneo's forthcoming Renaissance Master Series.
In August he will release his 2012 mix of "Lonely Child" on My Favorite Robot Records followed in September by "It's Been a Long Time" and a remix for Franksen's "Distance" both on Circle Music. In October his "Runaway EP" is being released on One Records including remixes from Burnski, James Cotteril, Alex Arnout and label-head Adam Shelton. Finally, in November, on his own label we have SLOK mixing the Electronic Petz Vol.5. Volume 4 was supporting by a list of international DJs far too long to mention, however some prominent label head supporters include Richie Hawtin, Ellen Allien, Steve Bug, Steve Lawler, Claude Von Stroke, MANDY, Nic Fanciulli, Audiofly.
With this kind of international support there is no doubt that SLOK will soon be moving from the Parisian underground into the international spotlight.
