Hamilton Fish "TRAGIC DECEPTION/FDR & AMERICA'S INVOLVEMENT IN WORLD WAR II

------------------

The tragic war with Japan was unnecessary. It was a catastrophe for two nations that had much to fear from communists than from each other. We not only gained nothing from the war, but lost a friendly China to the communists.
Britain lost more, as she had special interests and privileges in China and lost Malaya, Singapore, Burma, India, and Ceylon.
Chiang Kai-shek was badly advised by Owen Lattimore in opposing the modus vivendi that called forthe withdrawal of Japanese forces from China. That would have left Chiang Kai-shek in control of all of China. This was three years before the concessions made by Roosevelt to Stalin at Yalta. There would have been no reason for Stalin's Communists army, as our ally, to invade Manchuria. Chiang Kai-shek, as the friend of the United States, would have had all the arms and resources he needed to crush the Chinese Communist opposition.
