Let's talk about Japanese"Otaku"culture!
理念-The idea of this circle-
これまで「アニメ」「マンガ」「コンピューターゲーム」「コスプレ」「同人誌」「特撮」「ＳＦ」「模型」などといったジャンルを一言で表す言葉はありませんでした。おまけに日本国内でも、どちらかというとこれらの趣味はマイナー扱い、ハマっている人間は「オタク」などと呼ばれて冷ややかな目で見られていました。
他方、「日本文化を国際社会に発信」という試みはずいぶん昔から行われてきました。しかし音楽、アート、文学などという、いかにも外務省あたりが発信したそうな文化は、全く国際的影響力を持ち得ていないのが現状です。
しかし前述の「オタク文化」は違います。世界の多方面で熱狂的に受け入れられ、その情報をユーザー自らが求めているのです。
ここはそういった「オタク文化」を学ぶ場所です。私自身の東京大学教養学部「オタク文化論ゼミ」の記録や、業界有識者（笑）による特別講義、その他オタク文化に対するデータベースなど充実していく予定です。
もう一つの特徴は「日本語教育」です。現在、日本語に興味を持ち、勉強したい、と考えている外国の方が多数、おられます。その中でも特に熱心なのが、オタク文化であるアニメ・マンガのファン達です。私たちスタッフはこれら外国の友人達の要望に答えたいと考えました。
It's been difficult to define with one word the variety of genres concerning "Anime", "Manga", "TV-games", "Cos-play ( Masquerade )", "Doujinshi (low print-run Magazines by fans for fans)", "Tokusatsu (Japanese style SFX movies)", "Science Fiction", and "Models". Those hobbies are relative minorities in Japan. Moreover, those who are obsessed by such hobbies are discriminated against, being called "Otaku" and looked down upon by the general public.
On the other hand, the "Transmission of Japanese Culture to the world" has long since been tried. However, those forms of culture such as Japanese traditional music, traditional art, and Japanese literature, which are the very things that the Ministry of the Exterior and similar bodies would be willing to exhibit, have not yet had the international exposure that they are definitely deserving.
Yet, "Otaku culture", as mentioned above, is different. Now that the culture is accepted by people all over the world enthusiastically, and the USERs of the culture are eager to know the information behind the culture.
Here is the place to study "Otaku culture." I am going to provide you with the materials of the seminor course "Therory of Otaku Culture" at the University of Tokyo, the special lectures by the learned men in THE industry, and also the database of Otaku-culture.
Another speciality here is "Japanese language lesson." More and more people outside Japan are curious about Japanese language and are eager to learn it. Among those, the most enthusiastic are fans of Anime or Manga, the Otaku Cultures. We, the staff, are going to help those friends in the world.
