What a pleaseant suprise to find Ripchord. Take a smidgen of The Decemberists melodies, R.E.M.'s hook, and a hefty dose of indie rock and you've got Ripcord's receipe cooking on your stove. I guess what strikes the right chord with me, no pun intended, is their pop sensibilities. It's so hard to sound fresh in the pop world with millions of bands sounding somewhat alike. Now I'm not saying Ripchord is so cutting edge they slice you like a knife, but I am saying what they do is good, and how they do it is even better, even though they look like Hot Hot Heat, which normally makes me grind my teeth in my sleep.
