Born in Tehran, Iran, Ali spent most of her childhood in Panchgani, India. Following the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Ali and her mother moved to Los Angeles, California in 1985. Ali then studied santour under Persian master Manoocher Sadeghi, which led to the rediscovery of her voice.She is now married to fellow Niyaz band member Loga Ramin Torkian. 　テヘラン(イラン)生まれ、幼少時代の大半をパンチャニ(インド)で過ごす。1979年のイラン革命に伴い、1985年ロサンゼルスに移住(その間の情報不詳)。現在、NiyazのバンドメンバーでもあるLoga Ramin Torkianとの間に一児をもうけている。
