Rapper DJ Quik, a pioneer of the hard-core "gangsta" rap scene in the early 1990s, began serving a five-month jail sentence in San Bernardino County last week for assaulting his sister.
Quik, whose real name is David Marvin Blake, surrendered in Fontana Superior Court on Thursday to begin doing his time.
According to police reports, Blake pulled a gun on his sister during a family argument in 2003. He was ordered last year to serve 45 days in jail on weekends after pleading guilty to the assault, but he never served his time. That violated his probation. On Thursday, Judge Keith Davis increased Blake's jail time to 150 consecutive days and ordered him to begin serving it immediately.
