IDC unique good points:

Since IDC only brings qualified coaches, and preps them to come to Japan, it has some unique advantages over "cultural exchange programs for coaches who want to go to Japan because it is exotic".

(For Coaches)

- coaches know us more and have better social relationship with us.

- Coaches are going to make effort to learn about Japan, and about Japanese debaters.

- Coaches are more likely to share information about Japan with other people in their countries (this means we can send a message to the other countries through IDC).

- Gives lots of listening practice for coaches get used to English spoken by Japanese so they can be fairer judges for Japanese teams in the future.

- As coaches learn about coaching in Japan, they adapt their coaching style to become better coaches.

- It trains them to think about coaching in a new way, and their coaching improves in general (not ONLY for Japanese students).

- Since experience is rewarding for coaches, they often become "repeat offenders" who come back to Japan for IDC or another program, and all the benefits listed above get amplified further.

(For students)

-Naturally, all these benefits for coaches, help us here in Japan too!

-Furthermore, if I am not mistaken, so far as debate exchanges go, they tend to send English as a Native Speakers to us. So IDC might be unique in that it gives us a special chance to hear ESL speakers in a debate-setting.

I also heard a rumor that IDC removes wrinkles and makes your teeth more white and shiny. We should conduct a scientific experiement to see if this is true.

hahahaha :D, Jonathan, thanks for a very entertaining and important analysis. So, should we plan next IDC? If so, when? And who do you want to invite?

Wow, some people are saying strange things about IDC based on their false assumptions on economics...

I heard from many people that they should not go to IDC. But it is easy to refute them!

The Argument:
Many say "The event is about a week, but I cannot go one day, so it is not worth the price."
That logic is based on the assumption that IDC is only worth it if you go everyday.

Refutation:
By that logic, you should not pay 19800 dollars for 7 diamonds because they are a bit heavy, and you can only carry 6 diamonds. But the truth is that 6 diamonds for 19800 yen is a bargain. Even if you can only go two or three days, it is still a bargain to go to IDC!

There, now we have no excuse but to participate in IDC!
