Did you know that the amount of moisture in the air has a lot to do with the weather conditions?

For example, when there is a lot of moisture, or water in the air, there is a good chance it will rain.

And, if there is little moisture in the air the weather should be dry and clear.

The amount of moisture in the air is called humidity.

Water shows up in the air as a gas called water vapor.

Water vapor is made when the sun heats up the water in oceans, lakes, and rivers.

The heated water evaporates, or turns into a gas.

The water vapor rises into the air and clings to little pieces of dust.

It then cools.

As it cools, it condenses, or changes back into tiny droplets of water.

These droplets gather together and become clouds.

Often the droplets become bigger and heavier and begin to fall from the clouds as rain or snow, depending on the outside temperature.

This movement of water from the ground to the air and back again is called the water cycle.
