Yeh I know, I can check 足あと and found out who's here. But that's not important....we want to know WHO are you and WHEN were you in Gaidai, and WHERE (or WHICH) school you were from, if you guys don't mind~
I was at Kansai Gaidai from Jan to Dec 1997.
This was before they moved campus from Hirakata.
Too old for you guys? Originally Boston University.
I now live in Osaka again after a stint in the Kanto region.
Work for a Japanese company since 1989.
Dont know what CES stands for, but we had a similar(smaller) lobby where all the
gaijin and people-who-like-gaijin hung out between classes.
Brings back some warm memories.
yeh the old campus is now a huge public library, if my info is correct.
CIE stands for "Centre of International Education". It's a seperate building from other Japanese students. The lounge locates at the first floor of the building, and it was divided with glasses. (imagine a huge pet shop, or zoo). It's a place basically all gaijin students would know about. Well...it's also right next to the office and computer lab.
i am sure it feels the same even in your time. : )
So I see they are still into segregating the gaijin from the general population. Why they need an entirely separate building to contain foreign students is beyond me.
At the Hirakata campus, it was actually OUTSIDE the campus walls and across the street.
They were obviously not interested in internationalizing their students.
They actually spell it "Centre"?
So, where are you from, wolfdeasia?
You dont sound like English was your mother tongue.
I am from Canada, eh. Center, Centre, I don't quite remember how it was done back there. That's how we spell that here, though. : )
also, everything will make sense if you reply a message quickly after a long day. hahaha.
oh and yes, the walls around the campus, it shocked me when i first got there, but nah, i got used to it.
Hey,
I'm Suzy. I was there from 2k5 to 2k6 and I came from the University of Florida.
Yea, I thought that it was weird that they separated us from the other Japanese students. And it was kinda unnerving when you saw Japanese people staring at you from the other side of the glass wall...
However, I had some really good memories in that lounge. I met new people, made jokes, etc...
Let's just say, I'm really missing the petting zoo now...
I'm Amanda, and I went from 2002-2003. I went through the Towson program, but was a Carnegie Mellon student. Did you guys stay at the seminar house, or do homestay?
Hi,
I was in kansai gaidai in 2000. That was a long time ago. The times when the new campus was just a flat piece of land. I was hanging out in th centre, addicted to ceramics and the ceramics sensei (Inomata sensei), walking to Makino station, and living room 214 in the old Seminar House. It's all so nostalgic!
So is anyone here at the same time as me?
Please feel free to contact me anytime!
Cheers
2006年中外大に行ったBhavaniです。It was definately the best year of my life. I stayed at SH 1 and 4 (yes, there are now 4!) The International Festival was amazing. If only it wasn't held during Gaidaisai - just a tad much to fit into one weekend.
Somehow, the CIE isn't complete without the *intersting* map on the back wall. So, here it is for everyone to enjoy. Being an Australian, I was particularly tickled at the demented blob that incorporates Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand and Antarctica.
