Hello, my name is Tomoko Komura, I'm a theatre artist based in London, currently performing in 'Jukai' in Camberwell (Oval).
The play is a tragi-comedy about a French writer visiting Japan, and the first week of performance (last week) was a big success, with the house full nearly very night, and Japanese people and Japan-lovers laughed, cried, and loved the show.
It's performed mainly English, and a bit of Japanese phrases, and the story-line is easy to follow for non-native speakers of English. The play collaborates with live Taiko drumming, so music fans can enjoy it too.
Please find details below and the attachment, and I hope you can mention it to your group mates! The tickets are FREE for under 26s, if there are young members. (Feel free to forward this email. I can reply in Japanese too.)
*****Under 26 year olds - watch for free (early booking required) *****
Theatre Témoin, in collaboration with Taiko sensei Ikuyo Conant, are proud to present the London premiere of JUKAI, a play incorporating Japanese traditional drumming with masked performance, physical theatre, dance, martial movement and live music.
JUKAI was originally developed in Santa Cruz, CA in summer 2008 with actors, musicians and designers from Japan, California and London and tells the story of a French writer visiting the Aokigahara forest at the base of Mount Fuji in Japan.
With JUKAI, Témoin has merged the playfulness of Commedia and half-mask with the power of traditional Japanese movement and music to create a new and engaging theatrical style which irreverently vacillates between comedy and tragedy.
Guaranteed to bring you an exciting cultural night out!
-- JUKAI 28 September to 16 October, 2010 Tue - Sat at 8 p.m. at Blue Elephant Theatre
