Vernon Japanese Cultural Society The Vernon Japanese Cultural Society expresses our condolences and support to all those affected by the March 11th earthquake and its aftermath. Our hearts and thoughts are with our overseas family and friends.
In response to the devastation, we support the national Association of Japanese Canadians' recommendation to donate to a reputable humanitarian aid agency like the red cross or the salvation army.
Because our sister city Tome is in the region directly impacted, please also consider donating to the Sister City Relief Fund. Cash or cheques payable to the City of Vernon can be dropped of at City Hall.
Local businesses like Kaze (Enderby), JDon, Ichiban, Immigrant Services and Okanagan College are also collecting donations. Finally, note that the VJCS has opened a Japan Relief fund at Prospera Credit Union and our Japanese Heritage and Language School is holding a Sushi Bake Sale March 26 from 10AM-2PM.
We are truly heartened by the numerous local fundraising activities - including bake sales, bottle drives and concerts - and by the determination of the Japanese people themselves in the face of such extreme circumstances.
