FIMIC: Time of Music celebrates 25th anniversary
Time of Music, one of the oldest contemporary music festivals in Finland, celebrates its 25th anniversary this summer. The program of the anniversary year includes a jubilee composition by Sampo Haapamäki, commissioned by the festival, as well as other premieres, Finnish premieres and some older classics.
The guest composers of the festival are Jukka Tiensuu, one of the founders of Time of Music, and George Aperghis, a Greek born composer specialized in new musical theatre. Tiensuu and Aperghis will be holding a composition workshop during the festival. Tiensuu will be featured at the festival as a pianist as well as a composer.
Diotima Quartet will premiere a new work by Sampo Haapamäki entitled 'Connection' on July 6, 2007. The festival also features the world premiere of 'Crimes of the Past' by Olli Virtaperko. 'String Quartet' by Juha T. Koskinen and 'Pilke 1' by Tapio Tuomela will have their first performances in Finland during the festival.
Time of Music takes place in Viitasaari, Finland, from July 3 to July 8, 2007.
