What’s it about: Based on a Japanese Anime called Tetsuwan Atom. CGI update of the classic Japanese animated series focusing on a scientist that creates a robotic replication of his deceased son, and his subsequent battles against arch-villains as well as learning to adapt to human life. Our hero journeys to find acceptance in the human world, and ultimately discovers true friendship as he uses his incredible powers to help others and save Metro City from destruction. The CG-animated feature, which is budgeted at around $40 million, will arrive in cinemas in 2009 courtesy of Warner Bros., The Weinstein Company and Imagi Animation Studios.(same studio in the production of Gatchaman)- Colin Brady (Toy Story 2, Everyone's Hero) directs, and Maryann Garger is the producer.
So far I know that the director is a major animation expert who did several movies such as Shark Tale (2004), An American Tail: Fievel Goes West (1991), Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). Not bad with experience but I hope he doesn’t screw up my childhood image of Atom.
I think the movie is a CG based movie. Not a actual screen play. Freddy Highmore, star of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Spiderwick Chronicles, has been picked to voice the title character. He also will be in this springs movie called The Golden Compass.
