This is an activity for you develop your grammar skills. We are looking at WORD CATEGORIES.
Do not focus on this too much, but try to THINK and PRACTISE doing things correctly and soon you will do them automatically with no thinking. We will start from the beginning so it is easier for our basic level students and our more advanced students may learn something new!
WORD CATEGORIES:-
ADJECTIVE:
An adjective is a word that we use to describe a noun. We could say that they modify the noun. Ex. HANDSOME Brad, ONE Woman, GREAT China, CLEAN Hospital, HAIRY Dog, RED Ball, COLOURFUL Pencil, AMAZING Freedom, BEAUTIFUL Love, LASTING Peace
There are 4 extra types of ADJECTIVES:- - POSSESSIVE - DEMONSTRATIVE - INTERROGATIVE - INDEFINITE
Possessive:- These are used to modify a NOUN phrase indicating possession. Ex. MY, YOUR, ITS, HIS, HER, OUR, THEIR
Demonstrative:- These are used to modify NOUNS phrases indicating something in particular. Ex. THIS, THAT, THESE, THOSE
Interrogative:- These are used as questions but modifying NOUNS. Ex. WHICH, WHAT
Indefinite:- These are used to modify NOUN phrases indicating an indefinite group. Ex. MANY, ANY
Exercise: Try to make 4 sentences using each of the 4 types of adjectives listed above that are more difficult to use. Ex. 1. My dog has soft fur. 2. She doesn’t like that dress. 3. Which brand of chocolate do you like best? 4. Many people think English is hard.
