"It makes a difference to say Hi in the language of the country"
W: The Parisians have a little reputation of being a bit snooty, snotty, like umm... they don't want to speak English (to you) when you come there. You should speak French. Is that stereotype... correct?
R: I think it's... maybe not totally correct, but it's a bit true. Paris... it's a very touristic city, and... and I think some people they... I think it used to bad actually. I think ten years ago, that French people they don't want to speak English, and make the effort. But now, it's changed because I think we realize that, tourism is very important for us and... so we want to welcome better the tourists. So I think about the English... it's getting better, and young people like me, my age, they know that English is very important, and they try to make the effort. But sometimes, we really appreciate in France if you just make a little effort speaking French. I mean some English speakers or tourists, they don't think of it, but it makes a difference just to say "Hi" in the language of the country. Because, when you arrive to (meet) someone and speak English straight away, with your own English, which is not so easy to understand sometimes for foreigners. French people think it's a bit rude, yes. But, I don't know if it's normal or not, but it's like this. It's true that we still have this in France, that if you don't... if you speak English straight away, it's not very well seen.
