5th Annual Climb-a-thon!

Planet Granite Gym in Sunnyvale

Let’s celebrate our love of climbing and raise funds for Stacey by climbing as a team the entire height of Mt. Everest: 29, 029 feet! Get sponsors ahead of time, then come to PG on Dec. 2 and climb as many vertical feet as you can in three hours! All fund-raisers who raise over $100 will receive a t-shirt, and all who raise over $1000 will win a free rope!

In August of 2003, Stacey was diagnosed with as rare lung disease called LAM: lymphangioleiomyomatosis. This disease is progressive, incurable, and lethal. The only treatment is a lung transplant. What a shock! Stacey had been managing the Twisters Climbing gym, coaching the youth team, climbing competitively, leading outdoor climbing trips, and serving as President of sheclimbs, the international climbing club for women and girls. Her enthusiasm and generosity were cherished all over the Bay Area. Her illness quickly forced her to rely on tanks of oxygen and a wheel chair while she waited for her transplant.

In November of 2004, Stacey received her new lungs at the Stanford Medical Center. With them, and with the complex, continuing care that a transplant patient needs, have come astronomical medical bills.

50% of lung transplant patients survive their first five years. This year’s Climb-a-thon marks Stacey’s third year of survival. She makes the most of every day; she works part-time teaching, hikes, and climb indoors. She is beating her illness with passion, teamwork, discipline, and love. Let’s put those virtues to work to raise mountains of money―at least one big mountain―at this year’s Mt. Everest Challenge Climb-a-thon!
