☆Chapter 4-2☆ ジョーとケヴィンの会話のつづき。本屋さんの話に変わります。

Joe: We should announce ourselves to the neighborhood. "Here we come."

Kevin:
I don't know, this is the Upper West Side. We might as well tell them we're opening a crack house.
They're going to hate us. Soon as they hear, they'll be lining up to picket the big bad chain store.
That's out to destroy...

might as well したほうがいい, line up ～を確保する～を組織する

picket 警備員, be out to　～しようとやっきになる

Joe:
Everything they hold dear. We're going to seduce them with our square footage and our discounts,
and our deep armchairs and our cappuccino. That's right. They're going to hate us at the begining...

seduce 人 with 人を～で誘惑する, footage ﾌｨｰﾄ単位の長さ(映画のﾌｨﾙﾑなどに使う)

Kevin: ...but we'll get them in the end.

Joe: And you know why?

Kevin: Why?

Joe:
Because we'll sell them cheap books and legal addictive stimulants.
In the meantime, we'll just put up a big sign:
"Coming soon, a Fox Books Superstore. The End of Civilization. As You Know It!"

legal 合法の, addictive 中毒になる, stimulant 刺激剤, in the meantime その間に, put up 貼り出す

ケヴィンもなかなかおもしろい！！

熟語でも切れちゃってる場合があります。英語の感覚を掴むためなのであしからず。

☆hiroの解釈☆ 区切った部分を英語にしていくと、セリフになります！

ｹｳﾞｨﾝ：
どうかな、/まあここは西部だからね。私達は/ほうがいい/彼らに伝える/私達は/ぼろい家をオープンします。/
みんな/だろう/私達を嫌う。/すぐに/みんなは聞くと、/みんなは/団結する/大きくて悪いﾁｪｰﾝ店を警備するために/
破壊しようとやっきになるんだ
ｼﾞｮｰ：何でもいいところをもってるさ。私達は/しようとしている/彼らを/誘惑する/ちょうどいい四角い空間、安さ、深いアームチェア、そしてカプチーノで。/

square footage は売り場面積のことだと思います。a crack house は麻薬の密売所かぼろ家のどちらかでしょうけど、アメリカ西部がどういうイメージで通っているかによると思います。これについては訳ではどうなっているんでしょうか？

☆和訳(吹替え)☆
ｼﾞｮ：そろそろご近所に開店を知らせよう。
ｹｳﾞｨﾝ：
ここはアッパーウェストサイドだ。住民はキビしいぞ。
ピケを張り、“チェーンストア反対！”“町並みを”“守ろう！”
ｼﾞｮ：
客を誘惑するんだ。広々とした店内にディスカウント本とフカフカのイス、
そしてカプチーノ！最初は嫌われても･･･
ｹｳﾞｨﾝ：最後は勝つ！
ｼﾞｮ：
なぜだ？廉(れん)価本と癖になるコーヒーでな。
表にはデカデカと“文明破壊のフォックス・ブック・スーパーストア”だ。

a crack houseの訳はありませんでした。
adictive stimulantsもセリフにありますし、
“癖になる店”ぐらいな解釈ですかね～。
ジョーの性格からいくと、麻薬の密売所でもよさそうですね

square footageは広々とした店内の意味でした。
隊長さん、すごいなあ。
