Today was the day for the “meet and greet” organized by Fiona. It was held at a Residence Inn about 10 minutes drive from Disney World. When I arrived, several guys were sitting in the lobby waiting for things to get started. We were told that Nokie was playing by the hotel’s pool patio. Out there, Nokie was seated at a table softly playing an acoustic guitar, with people seated around him listening to the music. A short time later, we were directed to the hotel’s conference room.
Here things got kind of disorganized. The assigned room was too small for the 60-70 fans who had gathered, and everyone was jammed in like sardines. Jack deFranco tried to organize a queue line for people to pass Fiona’s and Judy’s sales tables and then to a long row of tables where Bob, Nokie, Leon, and Don were seated to sign autographs. A short time later, the hotel staff opened up movable partitions to make the room twice as big and more comfortable for everyone. Some of the fans brought LPs or CDs to be autographed, others brought guitars, still others bought a few items (Del’s book, photo prints, or t-shirts) to bring to the autograph room. Among those there were Bob Dowd and his wife, Byron Teitjen, Russell and his wife, Tom (O’Brien?), John McGee, and others. I got a second copy of Del’s book and had it signed by The Ventures. They were amiable, responding to questions, etc. I had a chance to speak briefly with Jack deFranco, who took a picture of myself standing behind the band members. I noticed that there were a couple fans who brought a stack of LPs to be signed. One, in particular, had a stack of at least a dozen of the ‘60s LPs, which the guys signed. (I won’t be surprised if some of those LPs end up on ebay.) Eventually, the group grew smaller and smaller and people got a chance to meet The Ventures and then left.
As for today’s shows at Epcot, the song play lists were pretty much identical to yesterday’s. The only difference I noted was that in the last show, they included Diamond Head in a medley with Pipeline. By the way, all of the play lists I’ve posted are courtesy of my wife Helena’s note taking. The guys were great again, giving high energy performances that were wildly applauded by the appreciative crowds. As yesterday, the theater was pretty much packed to capacity (about 1,000).

On several instances during the last show, Bob and Don mentioned that they enjoyed themselves and hoped that they could come back to perform at Disney World. Hopefully with the great turnout and reception, they will be asked to return for next years concert series.
Note that I’ve posted another set of pictures in the group’s photo section, including a couple from the meet and greet and of the band’s equipment for these concerts.
