I'd really like to thank all the fine people who came to The Greenhouse for the Shogatsu Gathering and made it such an enjoyable occasion. There was something about it that reminded me of what the holiday season was like when I was a child. My grandmother had five children, who had 13 children, and at every Christmas and New Year they all gathered at her house, where I was able to play with all my cousins for over a week. Of course we had no DJs or other performers, but delicious food was certainly part of it, as well as a warm tribal feeling. (I wonder: perhaps I'm trying to become my grandmother?)
Once I produced a dance party at which everybody who arrived was given a badge that said Staff. It was a bit artificial to do that, but I think the idea was correct. A party is created as much by those who stimulate creativity and play through their attention, and through the way their own movements respond to the music and other energies, as it is by those whom we call the performers.
So thanks, everybody, for creating such a good atmosphere and dynamic. If any of you want to arrange an event here yourselves for your friends and collaborators, don't hesitate to let me know, and I will do my best to help facilitate it.
