In about two weeks, I will be coming to Japan to study Japanese. I don't know much about the area, and I was hoping someone might have some advice on what there is to do or see around there. I will be staying in a mansion in Shinjuku, Tokyo. I'm also hoping to meet some new people and make a friend or two. If you have any tips please let me know!
ありがとう!
P.S. Oh, and can someone teach me how to use the mixi community search? I want to find communities that are about the location I'll be staying in Tokyo, but I always get too many results :s
I wouldn't worry too much about finding stuff to do in Shinjuku; there's a whole lotta stuff there. For a general overview of the types of thing you can find in the surrounding area, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinjuku has a decent description. Personally, I found that I liked to hang out in places which weren't quite as crowded. If you want more specifics, you should probably give us an idea of the things you'd like to do, your general level of Japanese, etc.
Don't worry, there are so many places to go and things to do in Tokyo!!
You'll find some free magazines at bars, clubs, CD shops etc.
check out these web sites :)
I also get too much results when I use mixi community search so I'll have a quick look and go for some of them which look like the ones I'm looking for.
Perhaps if you try some other key words, the result might be more accurate.
My Japanese proficiency is a little odd to describe, but I guess I'll say I can communicate basic thoughts, nothing too in depth. Probably more textbook-y japanese more than colloquial speech, which I'm hoping to adapt more of. There are places to hangout that are not crowded? Please explain!
I guess I'd be interested in places where I could meet people. I understand it's difficult to meet new people in Tokyo, (without weirding them out or something to that effect) so I suppose a place where meeting someone new is socially acceptable would be something I would be interested in. I also want to find the little mom-and-pop-hole-in-the-wall-hidden-down-the-ally type food establishments that the locals go to for the great food. If you know any juicy secrets like that, I'm always up for some great food!
And a tip about communities: Find one that you are interested in and then visit the profiles of a few people in that group. Chances are they're members of similar groups which you can join too.
Also, on your profile, put something similar to this post that you've made here in the introduction part. That way if someone visits your profile then they may get in touch to help you out.
I think TOKYO is thebest place to visit japan first time. actually only few jap can speak English.so you can improve your japanese skill. even though some jap can speak english.if you said them you wanna talk in jap to improve it.they gonna talk you in jap so donot worry.
BTW how to correct imformation about japan.when you are in own country?
