1月31日に、Ｐｅｔｅｒｂｏｒｏｕｇｈで市内在住のダイアンさんという方が東北大震災のチャリティイベントを開催されます。ご興味のある方はどうぞ、私までお気軽にお問合せ下さい。

今回（1月31日）のイベントについて少しでも多くの方に知っていただき、少しでも多くの募金を集めるために、このような広報メールを送らせていただきますこと、どうぞご了承下さい。今回のイベントは、一年近く前に震災で家を失い、未だに住む場所のない何千人もの被災者の方たちのためのチャリティ・イベントです。
このイベントでは、私が16年前に40才の誕生日の記念に行った44日間の巡礼（お遍路さん）の旅の日記や記憶などについてのプレゼンテーションをします。
私が実際に使用した地図や、巡礼の際に使用したもの、巡礼中に入手したものなども展示する予定です。私は44日間の巡礼中に900マイル（1440Km）
以上を歩き、88か所の寺院に参詣しました。ほとんどの行程は一人でしたが、一緒に遍路を歩く友達がいた日もありました。若い日本人女性と一緒に台風の
中を歩いた時は、気持ちを盛り上げるために英語の歌 (Row your Boatやハンプティ・ダンプティなど) を歌いながら歩いたこともあります。
日本人の方でもお遍路さんを歩いたことのある方は少なく、ましてや外国人としてはさらに稀です。全部回りきった参詣者のほとんどの方は観光バスに乗って
巡礼をしています。歩いている巡礼者を見ることはほとんどなく、背の高い外国人がお遍路さんの服装で歩いている様子はかなりのセンセーションだったようです。
しかも、私が現地に到着する前に友人が新聞社に連絡を取っておいてくれたおかげで、私はなんと日本でもインタビューを受けることとなったのです！

Dear friends
I hope you don't mind me contacting you with this self-advertisement, but I am anxious to spread the word about this event to as many people as possible in order to maximise the funds raised. This is a fundraising event for the thousands who still remain homeless in Japan after the earthquake and tsunami which hit nearly a year ago.
The evening will feature pictures, diary entries and memories of the 44 day pilgrimage I did 16 years ago to mark my 40th birthday. Items used and acquired along the way will be on display, as well as the maps I used. Over the course of the 44 days, I walked over 900 miles and visited 88 temples. For the most part, I walked alone, but for a few days I had walking companions. I walked for two days through a typhoon with a young Japanese woman; we sang children's songs in English (like Row your Boat and Humpty Dumpty) to keep our spirits up.
The pilgrimage is rare for Japanese, and even rarer for foreigners. Most people who complete it do so by catching coaches; seeing a pilgrim walking is a very unusual sight and a tall foreigner in pilgrim gear caused quite a stir. My friends contacted the papers in advance of my arrival so I was interviewed in Japan too!
