オーストラリア医療関係者コミュの風邪薬を買うにはIDが必要

風邪薬を求めてPharmacyへ行き、いつも決まって購入する風邪薬を頼むとIDを見せるようにといわれました。風邪薬を購入するのにIDが必要だなんて、一体なぜ？と尋ねたら、風邪薬の成分にあるPseudoephedrineというのがスピードやアイスといったドラッグの成分になるmethamphetamineを作るからということなんです。

In an attempt to crackdown on methamphetamine abuse, Iowa has enacted legislation that requires citizens to show identification, or even have a prescription, when purchasing over the counter cold medication.

This law restricts the sale of cold medicines, which contain pseudoephedrine, a common ingredient in medications such as Sudafed, PediaCare, Sinutab, Dimetapp and Triaminic.

According to Boston.com, the new laws are an effort to thwart the rising incidence of illegal methamphetamine (also known as meth, speed, chalk, or ice) production in Iowa.

Methamphetamine is an addictive stimulant with prolonged toxic effects on the central nervous system, and it is highly prone to abuse and addiction.

It is a stimulant popular with young people and is becoming increasingly prevalent on college campuses for its ability to help people stay awake for extended periods and lose weight.

Methamphetamine users experiences "highs," or intense pleasurable feelings. However, prolonged use of methamphetamine can result in debilitating movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) indicates that taking even small amounts of methamphetamine may cause wakefulness, increased physical activity, decreased appetite, increased respiration, hyperthermia and euphoria. Other effects include irritability, insomnia, confusion, tremors, convulsions, anxiety, paranoia and aggressiveness. Hyperthermia and convulsions can result in death.

Methamphetamine users may also have increased heart rate and blood pressure, which can cause irreversible damage to blood vessels in the brain, which may result in stroke. Other effects of methamphetamine include respiratory problems and extreme anorexia. Methamphetamine users are at high risk of cardiovascular death.
