Guitar Hero: World Tour adds NOFX, Bad Religion and Rancid
Guitar Hero: World Tour has added three of Epitaph Records' most important bands in a new track pack. The set, available now on XBOX360 and PS3, features NOFX's "Linoleum" from Punk In Drublic, Rancid's "Ruby Soho" from ... And Out Come The Wolves and Bad Religion's "21st Century Digital Boy" which is presumably the Against the Grain version, not the Stranger Than Fiction version since this is the "Epitaph" track pack.
Rancid Home town Interview Rancid dives into politics
Why not, says Armstrong’s guitarist/co-vocalist Lars Frederiksen: "We’ve always tried to wear our hearts on our sleeves and talk about exactly where we were at that time. And we come from these working-class backgrounds — all of our parents had to work to put food on the table. And that’s what gets conditioned. You’re always going to see things from that perspective. So we’ve always been really personal with our work. We talk about how what’s happening in the world affects us."
But things have changed since Rancid first came out swinging on its eponymous 1993 debut for Brett Gurewitz’s Epitaph imprint.
Frederiksen, 37, is now a proud papa, and he chauffeurs his son around town in a family-friendly Volvo.
Bassist Matt Freeman, 43, has two sons, and Armstrong, also 43, has been playing father to the roster of bratty young bands he’s signed to his own Epitaph spinoff, Hellcat Records.
2nd interview Q: This album has a ballad on it called "East Bay Nights." How many shoes do you think people are going to throw at you when you play it live?
Armstrong: If you follow everything back that we've done we're always going to do things that people don't expect. We just do what feels right for us. Going back to Operation Ivy, even. Even if we were thinking we would do some soul thing and it would just sound like Rancid.
Frederiksen: We've always taken different things from all kinds of street level music, whether it be reggae or ska, rock 'n' roll or soul. We've always touched on that, but we've always made it our own thing. We're just going to make the kind of record that we feel proud of.
D: You played with The Ramones at their last show and Tim put out Joe Strummer’s last three albums. How much of an impact was it having direct contact with those legends?
TA: How fucked would we be if Joey Ramone goes, “I don’t like you. You guys suck”? I would cry. I would be a 29-year-old grown man crying in Lars’ arms.
LF: I’d be consoling him, but crying just as hard.
TA: The Ramones didn’t have to do that, but they embraced us. The same with Joe Strummer, super fucking cool. What’s really great is doing the same and working with younger bands, really young bands. I like working with bands [with members] that are 19 years old, 18 years old.
