OTHER
APHIS does not have animal health requirements for the importation of fish, reptiles, lions, tigers, bears, mink, rabbits, sugar gliders, foxes, monkeys, endangered species, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, chinchillas, squirrels, mongoose, chimpmunks, ferrets, or other rodents provided they have not been inoculated with any pathogens for scientific purposes. If the latter is the case, they require an import permit (VS Form17-129) and can only be released to an approved laboratory.
The CDC has responsibilities pertaining to the importation of primates.
The U.S. Department of the Interior, Law Enforcement Division, Fish and Wildlife Services , has responsibility pertaining to the importation of reptiles, fish, and endangered species.
Thank you for contacting the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. To the best
of our knowledge, red corn snakes (Elaphe guttata guttata) are not
regulated by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
(CITES). Therefore no import or export permits are required. However, you
will have to fill out a Wildlife Declaration Form 3-177 upon arrival at a
U.S. designated port of entry. You should also contact the U.S. Department
of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service
(<www.aphis.usda.gov>) to find out what, if any, regulations they have
regarding veterinary certification, health examinations, quarantines, etc.
You can find a list of designated ports of entry at <www.fws.gov/le>, click
on "Importers/Exporters," then on "Wildlife Ports of Entry and Exit."
Please contact the inspectors at the port you will be entering to arrange
for them to meet your flight, examine your cargo, and assist you with the
declaration form.
