hello, my name is david. im English and studying for BA degree in Englad which will finish in july. After that I want to teach English or work in Japan. I've looked at Nova's website but they didn't have much information. Can anyone give me advice on the best way to get a working visa or working holiday visa to go to Japan and work. If you know any English people working in Japan i'd like to message them. Thank you very much! ^_^
Hello David.
I am working for a company as an English teacher for children and I know some foreign teachers in Japan. I think they apply for my company and the company will recommend you to work or some. I will ask my co-worker on Tue and then write you back.
Or you can ask ETJ members. ETJ stands for English Teachers in Japan, so you can ask questions to foreign and also Japanese teachers in Japan. If you cannot find the page I can ask them for you about your questions and write you back.
Anyway, please try and check the web site first! You may can find some imformation you want.

Or maybe you can apply to JET program!!
Many of my friends came to Japan and taught English at Japanese school with this program.
I think it's just worth it to check it out!!
I have never worked at an eikaiwa or on JET, but from the many foreigners I have met here, I can definitely say JET is the way to go. Basically you work less for more money, and its easier to find a job once you quit.
Yeah, just like everyone else was saying, JET is a pretty nice program. They have good support for you, too. I'm a Japanese so I can't apply for it but I would, if I could. haha.
But there are a cretain things you might wanna check out first.
1. It's a year-contract and starts only in July. So, the application is due around December and if you pass, you get to have an interview in Feb. So if you wanna do JET, you have to wait for over a year.
2. They never send you to big cities. Or almost never. They have Yokohama or some other options, but mostly you end up in middle of nowhere.
3. It's SUPER competitive. I have some friends who had applied, some got in and some didn't. So basically your application forms have to be perfect.
So yeah, I wish you good luck ;) And one of my friends who didn't get in is still trying to get a job here in Japan. So I hope both you guys find a way to make it!
I work for JET, and i saw many people recommended it here. But I think I should say something about the down side.
Firstly JETs application process has run out for this year - so you would have to wait and apply around december time (I think).
Secondly, (and I think this may also apply to many Eikaiwa schools too), your BA may leave you feeling over qualified for what you have to do. Each persons situation is different, but you may find yourself feeling underused in your job. Some JETs complain of being little more used than as classroom taperecorders.
Thirdly, you will have no idea where you will be placed. You can state preferences, but I think many ALTs dont get sent to the places you request. The other side is you could get put in a rural location, so get the see a great side of Japan, and have a great chance to pick up Japanese. That said, I live in a reasonably big city, sometimes I wish I was in somewhere really rural, but sometimes I wish I was in an exciting place like Tokyo.
If you want to see some more about JET, maybe you could look at www.bigdaikon.com. This site can tell you many of the downsides of JET - but its just one side, so dont let it put you off. I think most JETS, myself included, have a great time.
WOW! Thanks evey1. Its great to hear from some people who no a little bit already about these things. I think I will definately check out JET first, its sounds very good. Anyway I will make it to Japan somehow. If u have any more info or advice im glad to hear it. THANK YOU!
