This introductory martial art class will be based on Indonesian Pentjak Silat and Kuntao. Silat, for short, is an art of self-defense. It is a defensive art once widely practiced by the people of Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
This specific Silat-Kuntao system being taught is characterized by a progressive, direct method of self defense based on Guru (teacher) Jim Ingram's personal learning experience in the streets of Jakarta, Indonesia; as a Dutch commando in the Korean War and tested in the back alleys of Singapore. The Amerindo System, as with other Silat-Kuntao systems, makes use of close quarter combat in stand up fighting or on the ground. It incorporates strikes, throws, locks, and finishing moves. This system is non-specialized, but its emphasis is on timed finesse, body mechanics, control of force and effectiveness.
Basic curriculum will pertain to:
Bela diri (Basic self-defense) Djurus (Offensive and defensive hand movements) Langkas (Silat footwork) Awareness, Self-Belief, and Attribute Drills Gelut (Basic groundwork)
