Noh, Japan’s traditional 600year old theatre, has been designated a “ Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” by UNESCO. Noh is usually thought of as an arcane and inaccessible from of Japanese theatre and culture. However, for the very first time, specially for our English-speaking audience, there will be an introductory explanation given in English followed by a live performance of “Takasago”. The short performance will then be followed by a question and answer period given in English.
Two of the five Noh Masters (Haruhisa Kawamura and Genjiro Okura) have been designated “Important Intangible Cultural Properties (collective recognition)” by the Japanese Agency for Cultural Affairs.
