Straight after the “March in March” we’ll be heading back to Kichijoji for our Annual General Meeting. This meeting is compulsory for all GBC Japan members. Everyone is welcome, regular students, guests, friends etc.
We’ll be talking about many important issues such as:
New Class Fees and Membership Fees.
Bantus Capoeira Camp (March 24th-25th).
World No Tobacco Day 2007 (May 31st).
Bantus Summer Capoeira Workshop with Professor Gringo (June 24th-July 1st TBC).
First Bantus Capoeira Japan Batizado and Festival (September 1st-9th TBC).
Bantus Capoeira Australia 10th Anniversary Batizado and Festival in Perth, Western Australia (September 16th-30th).
Becoming an official Non-Profit Organization.
We’ll also be electing the 2007 committee, sub-committees, and action teams. And also have time for anyone to bring up issues that concern them. If there’s time we’ll have a roda.
Also thanks to Lanterna, Cotonete, Yumi, Mico, Quati, Guarana, Pipoca, Sorriso, Peta, Fumi, Ayako, Sorvete, Amizade, Coruja, Greg, Frank, and Cafune for coming to our AGM.
And thanks to those who came to the March in March. that was fun.
1. By everyone becoming a member of GBC Japan you are supporting GBC Japan and all its members. It's more fair this way. Why should only some people have to pay the members fee, but everyone gets the benefits? Right? Not fair!
2. Take care of your back Tatsu. We don't want to have to visit you in the hospital.
3. We don't want to take the soul out of GBC Japan, but everyone knows why we have to try to wear our capoeira clothes at every class. Just try your best. It makes me so happy when I teach a class full of people wearing the Bantus Capoeira t-shirt and pants! It's also a sign of respect to me, cafune, and Mestre Pintor. I don't want to have to be a tough guy, so please just respect the rules, and just try your best. That's all I ask.
I'm trying my best to give you guys the best. Every week I spend at least 40 hours of unpaid work for GBC Japan. I have lots of pressure from many places to make this a success, not forgetting the pressure I put on myself.
Check it out!

If you're only giving 10% at class, you're wasting everyone's time. If you're giving 110% you're a bloody legend.
Everyone has a different "100%". So don't get worried if you're only coming once a week.
I think Peta is being too hard on herself, or taking what I say too seriously. Peta, you have come a long way since you first joined us. You might think you're still at the first step, but seeing you at the March in March in the uniform was super great! Same goes for anyone else who feels like Peta but hasn't communicated it to me.
Like Greg said, it just takes time.
I'm happy when people become totally committed to capoeira, but I'm also happy just to see people smile at class, transform, develop, get better, and improve.
I was in your shoes not so long ago. Capoeira has changed a lot since I started in 2000. Only 6 years ago, but these days everyone has seen capoeira on TV, movies, music videos, etc. When I started there were only a few capoeira websites, and almost NO capoeira videos to download. No capoeira song translations, no MP3s, no online shops, no t-shirts, no google, no mixi, no YouTube!!!
Also the situation here in Tokyo (one of the world's biggest cities) and Perth (the world's most isolated city) is so different.
I'll try to keep the GBC Australia (Brasil) philosophy strong here in Tokyo, but we have to adapt slightly to meet the needs of the people in this country too.
Yep - ur right... thanks for the understanding and support!
Ken chan and I will come to class as much as we can and I'll try not to feel too guilty when I can't make it... I think most of the pressure comes from myself personally... I thought the things which stop me from going to events/class were excuses, but I realise now that they are actually legitimate reasons (mainly uni at the moment - assignments galore!!). I know I'm not the only one with other commitments and I'll try to balance it all out as best I can - guilt free!! Yay!
Basically, I just didn't want anyone to think that I'm a slacker or not committed enough etc.. Especially if I become a member (seeing that I now fall into the 10 class/3 month rule) which is why I mentioned it at the meeting...
I'm happy to be a part of the team and help out in any way I can...
