I would love for you to be present for the showing of my project, FishBird.
Years ago I was talking to a woman who proclaimed the impossibility of interracial marriages saying, "A fish can love a bird but where would they live?"
Sponsored by the Brooklyn Arts Council, this is my attempt to answer that question. The exhibit uses interactive sculptures, photographs and interviews with multiracial New Yorkers, FishBirds, who share their experience of living between cultures and between races.
You're also invited to a Mixed Mixer after the showing on Saturday. Please bring a dish from your culture and rsvp to fishbird.brooklyn@gmail.com. Hope to see you all there!
Best, Katrina

i don't want to be offensive or anything, but isn't that metaphor that the women gave a bit off?
because, mixed races are more like a sparrow and a pigeon, or a tuna and a salmon, but not like a human and a gorilla, nor even like a human and an alien, for that matter...
but anyway, I hope your event goes well...I cannot attend myself, but best wishes from Japan!
