今年50周年を迎えた日米同盟。政権交代の荒波の中で、その同盟が大きく揺れて います。 普天間問題の解決が待たれる中、米国大使館でPolitical-Military Unit Chiefを務め、 米国側でこの問題の責任者の一人でもあるMr. Joseph M. Young をお招きし、 米国から見た日米同盟とはどのようなものかを語っていただきます。
*Speaker's Bio: As Political-Military Unit Chief, Mr. Joseph M. Young is in charge of the Embassy office that has responsibility for all issues bearing on the U.S.-Japan Alliance.
After finishing his undergraduate work at Borromeo College and earning a Master’s degree in Foreign Service at Georgetown University, he joined the U.S. Department of State in 1991. He has served as Consular Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Singapore, Political Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi, Economic Researcher at the Foreign Service Institute in Washington D.C., Economic Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, Aviation Negotiations Officer in the Bureau of Economic, Energy and Business Affairs at the Department of State, and Political-Economic Section Chief at the U.S. Embassy in Dublin. Following Japanese language training, he was appointed as the Political-Military Unit Chief at U.S. Embassy, Tokyo, in July 2009. ====================================================

This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the United States - Japan alliance, but the powershift of the Japanese government may have somewhat unsettled the relationship.
At our 80th Meeting, we invite Mr. Joseph M. Young, Political-Military Unit Chief, U.S. Embassy, to go over what the alliacee means, and reexamine the relationship between Japan and the US.
After one hour presentation and Q&A with the speaker, there will be group discussion sessions of the participants.
