All undergraduate international students are required to purchase WSU Insurance costing around $1300 each year, regardless of whether they have another plan in place. In 2005, the policy WSU offers the International Students increased by 50% due to more coverage for eye exams and prescription glasses. - Daily News April 13, 2005
“In the past, WSU allowed International Students who have insurance through their families or a policy that is purchased in their home countries, to demonstrate that their coverage is the equivalent of what WSU offers its students. If Benefit Services were satisfied with their requirements, the WSU sanctioned policy was waivered. The process of applying for waivers was unmanageable because of language barriers, and the complexities of comparing different policies.” ― Daily News April 13, 2005
“The United States law requires International Students to have insurance, but they are not required to purchase the university’s policy” ―Evergreen May 5, 2005
