Miyakejima (Izu island)
Until recently you could only stay in rooms here and needed to carry a gas mask around ... not anymore. Camping is allowed now and the island's nature, especially sea life, has increased due to low human activity over the years.

Many years since I've been here but I really liked it... the beaches, cycling, sea life, lots of birds, suzumishi forest around shrine.

And now they have day trips to Mikurajima for dolphin swims:

Hot spring available.
Dolphin swim tours to neighboring Mikurajima (need booking of course).
Quite a big island so good for cycling (rent or take).
Fishing.
Snorkelling Im told is very good here.
Hiking up the volcano where permitted.
Even rock climbing may be possible on sea cliffs and rocks.
Relax around the beaches - they have some 'black' sand beaches here.
Bird watching and easy walking.

And the best point!!!
Miyakejima the ferry returns around 2pm so that gives you almost a full Sunday - normal weekend is possible.
Those that have a day off Monday can stay longer of course.

Ferries leave Friday night from Tokyo so we relax and sleep on the deck free. Arrive early in the morning at Miyake.
