Been there, done that. Tsukiji Sushi run has been going on for a while. We are having a Temaki Sushi Roll party in Saturday morning at a beautiful tea house in traditional Japanese garden.
It is a NO-SPECTATOR event just like Burningman. Sounds intimidating? Don't be! Bring anything you like for sushi and let's roll!
□date/ July 5th Saturday 9:00-12:30 □Venue/ Ryotei in Kiyosumi Teien (right by the pond in Japanese garden) Toei Oedo line, Kiyosumi Shirakawa station, across the street from A3 exit http://www.tokyo-park.or.jp/english/park/detail_04.html (Shown as "Suzumi-tei" in this map, which is Ryotei.) □admission/300yen at Ryotei Please pay 120 yen for the garden at the entrance.
□Tsukiji tour Meet at the gate of Tsukiji Shijo station of Oedo line @ 7AM. We will shop around the fish market for about 2 hours, then take off to Kiyosumi garden. If you are thinking of getting things fresh out of market, it is better to meet up at 7AM, and check who else is getting what.
□Things provided A beautiful tea house for 40 people, tables and cushions. Hot green tea, tea cups, sea weed, soy sauce. Special entree by the guest chef.
□Things welcome Rice, things you like to put in rolls, appetizers, drink (liquors), desserts. Chopsticks, dish, small plates for soy sauce. Sudare (Mini bamboo curtain..) Knives and a cutting board. The kitchen is not for heavy cocking, but you can wash dishes. Friends, burners, virgin burners...and lots of friends.
□I tell you how wonderful this place is... - It is the best place if you like to perform Ikebana, tea ceremony or Yoga. - If you bring camera and tripod, you can take the best pictures ever. - The room is actually above the pond in Japanese garden. Kimono is perfect for adding up to real beauty, however no dress code is set. We do ask you to take off shoes, so hole-less socks are preferable :)
□Please be aware - There are lots of birds, carp and Suppon tortoises in the garden. However please refrain from hunting. They are not ready for sushi. - There will be a sign of "Zorome Sushi" at the entrance. Please come in and walk half way around the pond to Ryotei where the party is held. Don't wait out there, we will eat up all the sushi. - Amplified sound system is restricted. It is not a rave party, sorry. - Leave no trace, as always. Thanks. - You can smoke at ashtrays in this garden. Nowhere else, please. - You can enjoy walking in the garden even after the party finishes.
When you have no idea how much you should bring for sushi, prepare for 5 people and that will do great because everybody else is coming to feed each other. Even if all of us decided to play spectators, we can sit and have green tea with soy sauce dripping sea weed, which is still not too bad at this location. Hell no!
