マリアナ海峡とは世界の海でそして地球の表面で最も深い場所。約11,033メートルもの深さに及び太平洋の北西、マリアナ諸島の南東に位置する。その海峡5000メートル付近に潜む生物の多くは未だ謎となっている。不気味なアンコウにメクラウナギや宇宙生命体のように光るクラゲなどがひっそりと生き延びるこの不思議で真っ暗な空間。人間の最先端技術を持っても未だにその海峡底に辿り着く事は不可能だ。

The MARIANA Trench is the deepest part of the world's oceans, and the deepest location on the surface of the Earth's crust. It has a maximum depth of about 11,033 meters (36,201 feet), and is located in the western North Pacific Ocean, to the east and south of the Mariana Islands. What beautiful & fearsome creatures are contained in its Abyssal zone beyond 5000m is largely a complete mystery. At that depth Angler fish lurk, Hagfish slime & spaceship-like jellyfish glow with enticing twinkling bioluminescence, waiting in the depths. There is currently no submersible vehicle that can reach its depths.
