Bring your friends and family and join us in song and celebration as we experience Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion, with Satyadeva and friends.
Through the practice of Bakti Yoga we can develop unconditional love and grow in awareness. The word Kirtan comes from the Sanskrit root word "kirt", or "kirti", meaning to name, to communicate, to share, to participate in, to celebrate, to praise, and to glorify.
Kirtan is suggested in the ancient holy books of India as the easiest way to quiet the mind and awaken joy in the heart of the busy person. In Kirtan we sing together as a group with traditional Indian instruments, the lead vocalist rhythmically chants mantras and the group responds in turn.
A mantra is a spiritual sound vibration which clears mental clutter in the mind space. When the mind is quiet one's true-self is easily experienced. Even if the person does not understand the meaning of mantra, the spiritual vibrations will transport one to a place of peace and joy.
The practice of Kirtan opens our heart and allows us to be present with our true nature where unconditional love and the devotion naturally arises.
Kirtan is a whole lot of fun! Join with us in the Kamakura Kirtan, have fun and celebrate life!!
Satyadeva comes to us from San Francisco and has been practicing Bhakti Yoga and meditation for 38 years. With a musical group from the Tokyo Hare Krishna ashram he'll lead us through a traditional Kirtan, the practice of devotional chanting. Followed by a vegetarian meal prepared at the Hase Kokaido.
