Eggplant is one of the most common and widely used vegetables in Greece. You will find it in many Greek dishes as an ingredient both for salad, appetizer and main dish. It is definitely a vegetable that you will be served sooner or later in a Greek house. This is one of the first otiginal Greek dishes that my husband's mother served me when I first visited their house.
Main dish:
2. Classic Souvlaki (marinated and fried chicken cubes in lemon and olive oil served in "pita", something like tortilla)
Souvlaki is the most common food of Greek tavern and a dish that every time when I prepare it I almost feel the Greek summer breeze. All over Greece you will find little taverns serving only souvlaki. I can say that this dish is the favorite among all Greeks and surely the most common one. It can be made of beef, pork or chicken but today we chose chicken meat, as it is my personal favorite. Every summer spent in Greece there is not a day that we don't eat souvlaki, either for lunch or late dinner. It is served in pita, something similar to tortilla but thicker, tomatoes, cucumber and, of course tzatziki salad. Goes perfectly with beer! ^_^
3. Tzatziki salad
The most famous Greek sauce-salad made of strained yogurt, garlic, olive oil and herbs. It's unique taste will make you never forget it. Greeks like to eat it with everything except fish, like a salad.
