‘KoRo’ or ‘Personal Filter’ is the innovative new exhibition by the up and coming media collective Satoshi Date. Inspired by the idea that our unique experiences influence our perceptions of the world that surrounds us, the exhibition incorporates various media including film, fashion, fine art and music to explore our concept in an innovative and original way.
Our concept stems from the idea that each person’s genetic construction is unique and along with the external influences that affect us throughout our lives, this helps define who we are and how we interact and react to situations, as well as affecting the way we construct our own intricate web of perception. When we were first created, we possessed innumerable elements that had yet to be influenced by the outside world. Once born, external influences started to affect our personal growth process. The smallest or most fleeting situation or emotion triggers complex changes in our constitution. Due to variations in genetic make-up, experience and lifestyle choices, each person develops their own unique web of perception or ‘filter’. ‘KoRo’ or ‘Personal Filter’ is the metaphor we use to explain how each individual perceives things in their own unique way.
Satoshi Date, artistic director of the self named media collective, describes his own ‘KoRo’ simply as ‘sensitive and creative’. He absorbs emotions and channels them to positively influence the environment around him, persuading others to absorb positive external stimuli that can influence their own ‘KoRo’. Born in Tokyo, he graduated from Central St Martins in 2006, and amongst other exhibitions and shows in London, his first solo collection was included in London Fashion Week and The Ethical Fashion Show in Paris in 2007. His interest and belief in recycling and environmentally responsible fashion is reflected in his extensive use of handmade and organic fabrics, whose tactical nature, like his work as a whole, engages and stimulates the senses.
Satoshi Date has clothing on sale at Luna and Curious as well boutique Frost in Berlin and he is presently preparing a collection for London Fashion Week 2008. He founded his self made media collective in 2007 with a view to incorporating various art forms in a cumulative and collaborative environment.
We look forward to seeing you at the exhibition.
