The Committee of Okinawa (the most southernwest islands of Japan) Day is planning to hold our annual Okinawa Day 2011 at Spitalfields, London E1 on Saturday, 25th June 2011.

Okinawa Day 2010 at Spitalfileds saw an amazing success with over 7500 visitors and numerous press coverage. Due to such success and demand, the Committee of Okinawa Day is now planning to hold another fantastic Okinawa Day 2011 with a hugely supportive venue partner, Spitalfields, which has a vast experience of hosting very popular events such as the annual Spitalfields Music Festival and the Japan Matsuri in 2009 and 2010.

Our mission for Okinawa Day 2011 is to promote ‘Ryukyu’ culture in the U.K in order to further the enrichment of cultural understanding and relationship between the U.K and Okinawa. We are also determined to continue to make Okinawa Day a sustainable event, following our previous successes in 2009 and 2010. We would also very much would like to encourage more and more U.K audience to participate in future ‘Ryukyu’ related events and to create a ‘Ryukyu’ cultural hub in the U.K.

At the moment, we are planning to organise the following events - performing arts (folk and classical songs accompanied by sanshin lute, drumming performance and eisa dance) and arts and crafts, food, tourism information and so on.

The prospective programmes may include:

● Ryukyu Music, Dance and Karate performances at the main square
Performances of Ryukyu performing arts by individuals and groups from the U.K and Okinawa

● Food stalls including Okinawan delicacies at the main square
Exquisite Okinawan food such as Goya Champuru and Taco-Rice

● Arts and Crafts Stalls from Okinawa at the main square
Display of unique and original arts and crafts objects from Okinawa

● Exhibition of arts works at the indoor passage
Display of a selection of photography, drawings and paintings and so on

●　Display of information about Okinawa at the indoor passage
Display of history of Okinawa and useful travel and cultural guides to Okinawa
