絵コンテやセル画など、アニメThe Last Unicorn を製作するに当たってTopcraft 社が成し遂げた優れた表現に対する理解を深めるための手がかりとなる資料は、未だ全体像を把握することができる情報として整理されておらず、多くが個人蔵として分散して所有されているため、散逸や劣化の不安を残しています。今後の研究のためにこれらをデータとして保存し、アーカイブ化を図る必要があります。所有情報の提供や、データ化についての提案など、意見交換のためにこの場を活用したいと思います。予め具体的な情報や提案などを頂けましたら、以下のアドレスまでご連絡ください。文化資料館での展示や上映会と展示会の合同イヴェントなどを目指して、具体的な手順を話し合うことができればよいと思います。

ビーグル、トップクラフト研究推進委員会
２５日のトークショップで語り合う主題として、この委員会の設立を呼びかけたいと思います。趣旨と内容は以下の通りです。
The Last Unicorn のファンの集い。
ピーター=ビーグルの原作とトップクラフト社のアニメ双方に対する理解を深める。
日本語版アニメThe Last Unicorn のリリースを実現するための条件等について意見交換し、アイデアを検証する。
ビーグルの作品とアニメ文化について語り合い、自らの思いを様々に表現する。
これら以外の実利的な目的を敢えて共有せず、ファンとしての謙虚な姿勢を忘れずに布教に務める。
組織運営上の義務や負担に相当するものは基本として設けないこととする。
活動は既存の諸ネットワークシステムを利用して、個別に自発的な行為として行う。
要するにファンクラブの設立ですが、「ファンクラブ」という存在／現象そのものの文化的意義性を改めて考えてみようという狙いもあります。

トークショップへのメッセージ
アメリカ、ロサンジェルスのユング研究所のジョン=レイニアード氏から、トークショップ開催に際して次のメッセージをお寄せ頂きました。
I am a Jungian psychoanalyst in the Los Angeles area. I’ve been a fan of Japanese anime and manga for around two decades now. I’ve published one paper on the Full Metal Alchemist series in a Jungian journal and I’ve given talks about the deep psychological value of anime. Much of anime and manga that is produced in Japan is still close to the imagination, the spontaneity is still there and so the voice of the collective unconscious is strong. Anime carries images that compensate the stale patriarchal attitudes of the collective. The warmth of feeling in anime, the focus on personal suffering and the healing of relationships, more than heroic action, provides a tonic for our obsessive and anxious times. Anime often show how a relationship to an alien other, god or space being, can be healing for both (The Ancient Magus Bride comes to mind).
I support any effort such as you are taking on if it widens the acceptance and experience of this incredible and vital stream of living water.

レイニアード氏は日本のアニメ文化に対する造詣が深く、様々なアニメ作品の中に潜む深層心理学的な重要主題を指摘して下さっています。昨年度は和洋女子大学を来訪して下さり、「特別講義」を開催してアニメ文化とユング心理学の興味深い関連を語って下さいました。

UCN大学のスー=マシソン氏からトークショップ開催に際し次のメッセージをお寄せ頂きました。
I would very much like to congratulate your roundtable's activities and encourage your establishment of the committee of Beagle-Topcraft Research Promotion. Beagle is an important fantasy author whose work offers us all opportunities to consider important and necessary philosophic questions. Topcraft's film adaptation of The Last Unicorn is a vital cultural intersection for Japanese and American audiences. The release of a Japanese version animation disk of The Last Unicorn would be the next step forward, one that would further foster what has become a popular and important trans-Pacific relationship. The realization of such a disk would be an important cultural event in Japan and in the United States (and Canada). If there is anything I can do to further this project please do not hesitate to let me know. If you would like me to join you on the committee, I would be most honored.
マシソン氏は様々の分野に渡って研究と教育活動を展開しておいでです。ビーグルの作品をことに高く評価してトップクラフト社に関する研究の重要性もよくご存知です。是非我々の委員会に参加したいと、現在の活動状況をお知らせ下さいました。以下は紹介文の一部です。
Sue Matheson is an Associate Professor of English Literature at the University College of the North. Her teaching portfolio encompasses a wide range of courses in the areas of American Literature, Film and Popular Culture, British Literature, Canadian literature, Aboriginal and Indigenous Literatures, and Children’s literature. Western film, and Horror Film are among her research specializations. Peter S. Beagle’s The Last Unicorn is used as a standard text in her Children’s literature classes. She is keenly interested in all of Beagle’s works, and in particular, his use of language and his framing of the metaphysical. Her article, “Psychic Transformation and the Regeneration of Language in Peter S. Beagle’s The Last Unicorn,” reads The Last Unicorn as a self-reflexive, complex re-visioning of the fairy tale that is concerned with the regeneration of meaningful language and the process of psychic transformation.
