DEATH KOTO concert projects is a series of compositions written especially for the koto, a traditional Japanese string instrument. Seven composers and sonologists have each written a piece for this instrument and it's very special musician.
The pieces that will be played in this fall concert series in Paris, Berlin and The Hague defy the traditional character of this instrument and will give it a contemporary sound.
The composers Ittetsu Shimizu, Hikari Kiyama, Ai Watanabe, Yoichi Kiyomichi, Kazutomo Yamamoto, Motoki Takeda, Kentaro Noda and Takeki Mitome momentarily form the music group NVM (Neo Volumism Music). They have been based in Tokyo and The Netherlands since 1983 and their main focus is on unconventional sounds such as howling and scraping.
For this concert series the koto player Hihara Fumie was a special inspiration. She is a musician and a performer with a very special interest in Death Metal. Without her unconventional playing methods these compositions would not be possible.
