“Lei Hoku he Pili Aloha” – a Live Planetarium Concert with special performance by Japanese artists Yumi Ishikawa and Ponolani. This performance in conjunction with the Katsushika Planetarium, is a cultural exchange between Japan and Hawai‘i. Live music performed by Japanese artists, a program about the Hawaiian starlines for navigation, and a look at the cosmic research. VIP program on Friday night and two programs on Saturday night, with one performance in Japanese and another in English.
Lei Hōkū, He Pili Aloha - Concert ―Saturday September 5, 2009 ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center, in conjunction with the Katsushika City Museum in Tokyo, will present a live music concert in the ‘Imiloa dome featuring Japanese slack key musician Yumi Ishikawa on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009 featuring materials from both Katsushika Planetarium and the ‘Imiloa Planetarium. The debut program is called , “Lei Hōkū, He Pili Aloha,” and in Hilo will include images of the cosmos from the Subaru Telescope and the Hawaiian star lines from ‘Imiloa in this tribute to Hawaiian culture, Hawaiian knowledge of the stars and astronomy, and the love that the Japanese have for things Hawaiian. “This is a new partnership for ‘Imiloa,” said Laatsch, who anticipates that this will be part of an on-going partnership for the two centers. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Tickets for performances on Saturday, Sept. 5 will be at 6 p.m. (in Japanese) and at 7:30 p.m. (in English). Tickets are $15 for the live concert.
