It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the Taste of Japan 2009 and to enjoy the activities of the day. Our theme this year, “Tradition in the Now”, encourages you to appreciate the effects of yesteryear on an ultra modern society through stage performances and demonstrations. You will have the chance to see displays, try your hand at Japanese crafts through various workshops, to sample traditional food, while being served tea in a Japanese café.
Special features in 2009 are a speech competition, organised by AUT, ILANZ, JETAAA and the NZJS and a traditional to modern fashion show. From Fukuoka City we welcome FUGA, a troupe of Shakuhachi (Bamboo Flute) and Shamisen (Japanese Banjo) musicians, here to entertain us alongside our very own Taiko Drummers, “Haere Mai”. This year we are very fortunate to have Masters of Kyudo as special guests, demonstrating Japanese traditional archery. In New Zealand from Sakai City and visiting Auckland for the first time, we are thankful to Wellington City and the Wellington Sakai Association for sharing their resources and associations. ________________________________________ Saturday 19th September from 10.00am to 4.00pm Opening Ceremony 11.00am Logan Campbell Centre, ASB Showgrounds Epsom, Auckland
