sometimes i get really excited about nights in recife and this is one of them. i love african music. when i was a youngster in england before the days of the internet we were lucky enough to have radio 1. on radio 1 there were two djs i really loved John Peel and Andy Kershaw. John Peel played a complete hotchpotch of music, whilst Andy Kershaw travelled the world looking for new sounds. This was a time before the term world music had been coined, and Andy was responsible for bringing unknown bands to the UK, getting them a mini van and organising tours. One of these bands was the Bhundu Boys http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhtNe4DfEyo&feature=PlayList&p=87592E92EE5C12FC&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=65
who played Jit music from Zimbabwe. I saw them and fell in love. Such a bright energetic sound. How could you not smile. There was a huge influx of african music into at the UK, as the whole world was focused on South African Apartheid and Nelson Mandela.
