***8PM “Makigami Koichi, John Zorn & Ikue Mori” Makigami Koichi was best known as the vocalist for Hikashu, one of Japan’s longest-running underground groups. As a result of Hikashu’s evolution from an electronic pop band into one encompassing world music, improv and noise, Koichi began collaborating with John Zorn, who produced the all-star Koichi solo record Koroshi No Blues. In addition, the singer performed with Derek Bailey and Yamatsuka Eye, and was the organizer of Zorn’s monthly, Tokyo-based improvisational forum Cobra.-- AMG
***10PM “Hikashu featuring Makigami Koichi” Makigami Koichi is one of Japan’s most popular underground performers. From techno (before the Yellow Magic Orchestra) to noise/sampler improvisation (before Ground Zero) to jazz, folk and beyond, Hikashu has been anticipating trends and charting new paths in Japanese music for decades.
