Please join us for an international climb of Mt. Fuji. Come stand on the top of Japan with us. This trip will involve climbing the Fuji-Nomiya route on the south side of the mountain. The plan for this trip is to start climbing on Saturday night around 9:00 p.m. and climb through the night and reach the summit before sunrise. This is the shortest route to the summit, and we will not be staying at any Mountain Huts, so you need to be prepared to hike through the night in the cold.
Cost: 9,700 円 and includes transportation to the 5th station of the Fujinomiya Route from Fujinomiya station, and experienced international mountain guide. Transportation to Fujinomiya and return transportation from the 5th station of the Kawaguchiko route will be your responsibility. Food and drinks will be your responsibility during the trip as well.
Meeting Time and Place: 5:55 PM at Fujinomiya Station in front of the ticket gates. Train fares range from 2200円 - 2700円 and takes around 3 hours depending on where you are coming from.
Things you should bring: Comfortable clothes for hiking. Cotton is not recommended, synthetics and wool are best. It will be cold at the top especially before sun rise, so warm clothes, gloves and a hat are required. You should also bring rain gear, day pack, 1 - 2 liters of water, and sunscreen. Food and drinks are available at Mountain huts along the climbing route, but can be quite expensive, so if you wish to save some money please bring some food.
Detailed Description of Trip: We will meet at Fujinomiya station at 5:55 p.m. and take a bus to the 5th station of the Fujinomiya route at 6:05, so don't be late. The bus will arrive at the 5th station at 7:25 and this will be the last place you can pick up supplies for a reasonable price, and we can also have dinner here before starting up the mountain.
The Fujinomiya route is the shortest route to the summit from any of the 5th stations on the mountain. We should start climbing by 9 p.m. so there will be plenty of time for resting during the climb throughout the night. As we climb higher it will become colder. There are plenty of opportunities to rest along the way, and if you wish to warm up inside a Mountain Hut, it is possible if you purchase something from the hut. The total walking time will be roughly 6 hours not including breaks. We should reach the sumit before the sunrise so we can find the best spot for viewing it.
After sunrise we will descend down the Kawaguchiko route which zig-zags down the mountain on many switch backs, and you will be able to truly appreciate the volcanic landscape with views of the 5 lakes of Mt. Fuji. From the Kawaguchiko 5th station there are buses available back to Tokyo.
