------------------------------------------------- Exhibition Opportunity: Tokyo
Networked space (working title)
Ginza Art Laboratory : Ginza & Shin-Koiwa, Tokyo
Call for artists
2 UK based and 2 Japan based artists
Exhibition: August 13th - 26th 2006
Networked space is a project aiming to investigate the web of connectivity which surrounds us. With constant advancements in communication technology physical and geographic borders seem to be eroding. This project aims to explore the multi-layered social, technological and urban cartography of the surrounding area through locative practices, with an emphasis of linking one locality to another.
There are two spaces available for exhibition, one is in Ginza, Tokyo's commercial centre and highly populated with art galleries. This space is open everyday. The other space is in Shin-koiwa, this space is located just outside of Tokyo's city centre and is open at weekends. This space is however larger. Floor plans will be available shortly.
Although gallery space is provided we would like to encourage work which also steps outside of this space and in some way meshes with or infiltrates the surrounding area.
The exhibition is to involve two Japan based artists and two UK based artists who will enter into creative dialogue with each other and encourage each other in the development of their work for this exhibition, with the sharing of ideas and knowledge.
Funding applications are currently being made. The project hopes to cover the following: Travel expense, accommodation, small amount for the development of work
