Message from Mission Control, Apollo 69:
these are the voyages of apollo 69. Our mission: to boldly go where no sound system has gone before.
as we leave the earth’s gravitational field, sonic technicians Guy & Gordy will provide your in-flight soundtrack via BONOBO, sophisticated analogue communication network.
on our adventures, we expect to encounter lots of chunky House meteorites, slick garage stardust and lunar disco-dub - all intertwined with beautiful balearic supernovas, prog & psyche moon rocks, technologically advanced drum’n’bassships and ancient alien communications from the afro-latin sector! bring your own spacesuit.
Apollo 69 on Facebook
end
So, there you have it, some mighty, heavy like strong brew (one needs alot of gas, not 4 laughing but to go to SPACE...), sorta words of the mission, the dudes are UP TO!! UP, UP & AWAY!
about Guy
Guy started out in 1985/6 as a graffiti writer for the original Cambridge party organization the Tone Def Krew (TDK) which included his brother Harvey and friend Thomas Bullock (Rub ‘n’ Tug). He then went on to form his own crew the Def Connection/Disco Children (DC) in 1987. Giving Harvey his first regular DJ platform and first gigs to the likes of Thomas, Rev, Jay Hannon and DJ Deck 20.
In 1988 he moved to London and became a founding member of Tonka Hi Fi sound system with Rob, Harvey, Thomas, Choci (Choci’s Chewns) and Rev. With Tonka he organized warehouse parties as well as the Zap club parties and beach parties after. In 1990 Guy was the warm up DJ for Harvey and Marki Mark (Wicked SF) at the ‘Captains Table’ in Soho London. From the 1990’s he started to play at after parties as the warm up and cool down DJ. In 1991 he rebuilt his old sound system and began to organize his own nights as well as hiring out himself and his sound system. He provided the sound and music at Clapham’s loft and performed A memorable DJ gig at Moist’s wig party. He also started his first regular DJ party, “Sunday Drivers” at the Ruby Lounge in Kings Cross London playing three and four hour sets of Rock, Psychedelia and Gospel.
Guy then moved to Tokyo in 2005 where he has played with DJ Yogurt at Grassroots and Hachi’s as well as making guest appearances at “Celebrate Life” and “Right Right Right” at Bar Jam. He hosted a radio show, called “Back to DC” on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at Bar Jam with his co-host Baby Clanger, where he played a cross section of rock and other musical oddities as well as reading from a variety of poetry and assorted tomes. guy has also played in Harajuku’s Bonobo bar at the monthly “Sway” night hosted by DJ’s Klo and Franco, and at jam’s Discodomo parties with Gordy. in december 2008, guy and gordy teamed up with toshi tanaka to start apollo 69.
about Gordy
Gordy’s dj career began in 1991 on the 10th floor of a dodgy block of flats in birkenhead, when he was left to finish his mate’s show live on a “local” radio station. despite some comically awful attempts at mixing, he had a great time and started to take it a bit more seriously. after moving to glasgow, gordy played at friends’ house parties and a few bars. this eventually led to a saturday night residency at the centre for contemporary art (cca). which lasted three years (and once got recommended by “elle” - ooh, fame at last!)
since moving to tokyo in 2001 he has played long running residencies with “Mental Position” at Ovo, and, more recently, “life” at Bar jam. he has also played various guest slots including “dancaholic” with Kasey Goto & Chida at loop (Jan ‘06), “Right Right Right” with Matt & Rob (Feb ‘07 & Apr ’08), supporting DJ Gregory at Air (Aug ’08) and a warm-up for terry farley at seco bar in may 2008.
after enjoying 3 fantastic years with tack, batch and yuichiro at “life”, gordy said goodbye to concentrate on the discodomo parties with guy, and in december 2008 guy and gordy joined forces with toshi tanaka to start apollo 69.
