Midas Promotions have not cancelled the Namie Amuro concert. The decision to cancel was made and posted by Namie Amuro's management. We have not been informed of their decision and hope it can resolved and the concert can take place
The official site for Namie Amuro’s Asia Tour 2013 has released an announcement that the Singapore leg of the tour has been cancelled due to ‘ issues concerning the local promoter’.
Such ‘issues’, while not explained further in the announcement, they are likely to revolve around relatively poor ticket sales. The steep ticket prices, ranging from $138 to $268, places the cancelled concert at the price range of the more expensive acts that come to Singapore.
Namie Amuro’s billing as a top Japanese artiste is beyond doubt but her local popularity may not be sufficient, in my opinion, to justify such pricing. Midas Promotions, the promoter and organizer for the Singapore leg for Namie Amuro’s tour, is not a new company and has handled many concerts in the Southeast Asia region.
On a related note, they were one of the organizers for L’Arc~en~Ciel’s concert in Singapore. While we may never know the real workings of what happened, we can only hope that Singapore may be able to witness a Namie Amuro concert in the near future.
At the point of writing, there is no information on the refunds of tickets on Sistic’s website but this should be rectified soon.
